Rich Murray turned over the club presidency to Catherine Friedman at a memorable gala and induction last week. Over 34,000 Rotary clubs around the world are also doing inductions this time of year.

Newly elected District 7450 Governor Francy Cross conducted the induction, telling Catherine, “Your election is an expression of the confidence placed in you by your club members.”

Catherine joined our club in 2012, and has been an integral member, embodying the spirit of global citizenship and service through fostering friendships, and propelling international initiatives aimed at fostering peace and community development. Born into a military family, she has lived abroad, which has instilled a profound appreciation for cultural diversity, and the importance of forging deep community connections.

Catherine spent over two decades leveraging her expertise in non-profit management, a leader in local organizations dedicated to eradicating homelessness in Chester County. With her commitment to social justice and community empowerment, she transitioned to Principled Money Management in 2020, providing vital financial stability to seniors in Chester County and northern Delaware through revolutionized trust and estate management practices.

A too often hidden talent is her voice. Catherine holds dual Master of Music degrees in vocal performance and vocal pedagogy from Westminster Choir College. A Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of New Hampshire honed her discipline and creativity, essential qualities that define her innovative approach to business leadership. On occasion, a lucky club member will be the recipient of a glorious vocal Happy Birthday greeting by Catherine.

She draws inspiration, confidence and support from husband Ken, and is the stepmother of Robin, a computer programmer, and Zoe, a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. She and Ken enjoy hiking the Appalachian Trail from state to state, a personal challenge and show of environmental stewardship, and sea kayaking.

After Rich put the president’s pin on Catherine’s collar and handed her the gavel, she presented him with a presidential plaque and a Rotary bobblehead, declaring, “Let’s have an awesome year ahead!”

We look forward to supporting you, Catherine, as you bring new ideas, leadership and more music to our club!
