Christine Zacarelli was known by almost everyone in the room at a recent luncheon meeting, when she came to talk about The Crime Victims Center of Chester County. She has been involved for many years in various areas of assistance to victims of crimes, as well as working for the Legal Aid Society, and chairing the Chester County Bar Association. But her focus now is heading up the non-profit agency that provides free, immediate, and confidential crisis response, and compassionate support to children and adults impacted by crime and violence. Her agency serves about 5,000 people a year through direct service counselors at her office, and throughout the county. Her staff consists of advocates for the elderly, children, those is the juvenile system and in adult probation. Three of the advocates are bilingual. The work they do does not necessarily involve the police, she explained. Her office also focuses on violence prevention and education programs for kindergartners through 12th  graders. With one in four people being sexually assaulted in the workplace, according to a report by the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls, for a small fee, The Crime Victims Center provides companies and workplaces with training on how employees can be more respectful of everyone. The Center works with victims from the beginning or middle of their victimization clear through to the end, she said.
