The Gundaker Foundation

The Gundaker Foundation was established in 1964 to honor the life-long accomplishments of Guy Gundaker, a charter member of the Rotary Club of Philadelphia and President of Rotary International in 1923-1924. As the charitable arm of our district, Gundaker provides educational grants to undergraduate and graduate students, and also provides matching grants for the projects of local clubs. In addition, Gundaker supports the Youth Exchange program. Approximately 85% of all funds distributed by this Foundation remain within our District.

All Rotary members in our District are heartily encouraged to make annual contributions to the Gundaker Foundation. When total contributions reach the $1,000 level, that member becomes a Guy Gundaker Fellow. All contributions to the Gundaker Foundation are tax deductible. For more information on the Gundaker Foundation located on the District 7450's website go to:

One example of a Gundaker supported effort is a library project in Honduras. This project was started by a young woman from West Chester. Here is a link to a short YouTube video, which describes the work - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaFl4tTJ878

The Gundaker Foundation - a brief Q&A

1) What is the source of funding for the Gundaker Foundation?

The vast majority of the funding comes from direct contributions from Rotarians in our District. The main fundraising effort takes place in the spring, to avoid conflicting with the Rotary International Foundation, which campaigns in the fall. In addition, as part of their annual dues, each Rotarian in our District pays a $10 assessment to the Gundaker Foundation.

2) What is the money used for?

The money is allocated to the following programs:

    A. (31%) Undergraduate Grants;
    B. (31%) Graduate Grants;
    C. (12%) Club Assistance - National (matching grants for club projects);
    D. (12%) Club Assistance - International (matching grants for club projects);
    E. (14%) Youth Exchange.
These are approximate percentages based on the latest budget. Overhead expenses are extremely low since all of the programs are administered by Rotarians volunteering their time.

3) Is there a targeted contribution amount per member?

The Gundaker guidelines suggest a contribution of $75 per member per year. All Rotarians are encouraged to become sustaining members of the Foundation with an annual contribution of $100. When members have contributed $1,000, they become a Guy Gundaker Fellow. Most clubs have a matching credit program, which helps Rotarians achieve Guy Gundaker Fellow status more quickly.

4) Who is the check made out to?

Checks are made payable to "The Gundaker Foundation."

5) Are contributions to the Gundaker Foundation tax deductible?

Yes. The Gundaker Foundation is a 501c3 organization registered with the State of Pennsylvania as a charitable organization. Gundaker is also a recognized agency of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania as well as the United Way of Chester County. Contributions to the United Way can be targeted to the Gundaker Foundation.
