The 2010 Project: A New Food Distribution Center for the Salvation Army

Nine Rotarians turned out on a Saturday in late January to begin the new Brighter Future project - building a new food distribution center at the Salvation Army in West Chester. After tearing out the drywall on the service wall and framing the new section, Mac Neilon (from left), Jim Gasho, Mark Sammarone, Gary Hess, Rich Kaufmann and Gary Hewitt took a pause for donuts and coffee. Bill Ronayne and Warren Calloway (not pictured) lent their expertise that day also, and architect and project chair, Greg Radford was in and out getting supplies.

Brighter Future Project - Spring 2006

It was a block party of an event this year at the northeast corner of Matlack and Barnard (203 E Barnard). Work started at 8AM with a crew of about 40 Rotarians. The building was painted with bright colors and a mural; and a door way framed out to prevent loitering. Also replaced was a drop ceiling inside the building along with dangerous mirrored tiles that were falling from an old ceiling. A hand rail was also added to the house next door which is occupied by an elderly woman. The project was lead by Rotarians Chuck Hawkins, Greg Radford and members of the Brighter Future Sub-committee of Jerry Alfano, Charlie Lyddane, Adrienne Masak, Cathy Palmquist, Steve Quigley, Matt Schwab, and Katie Walker.
