The Rotary Club of West Chester is an organization of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and work to build good will and peace in the world. The Club was chartered May 1, 1921, by twenty-three community leaders who wanted to make a difference. It is now one of 31,000 clubs world wide, in 166 different countries. Following its motto, "service above self," the West Chester club has provided service to the community and the world for over 8 decades and has now grown to 148 members. The object of Rotary is to foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise through:
- development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
- promotion of high ethical standards in business and professions;
- service in one's personal business and community life;
- advancement of international understanding, good will and peace.
Rotary uses the "4-Way Test" as an instrument to develop respect and understanding among peoples. This 24-word code of ethics is:
- 1. Is it the TRUTH?
- 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
